ENLISTMENT PROCESS — “No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.” 2 Timothy 2:4 ARMY OF LOVE’S VISION AND MISSION — THE VISION: To unite and equip the Body of Christ to minister and bring healing to broken-hearted and hurting people through Christ’s love and by the power of the Holy Spirit. THE MISSION: (1) Bring together followers of Christ for training and empowerment in order to help them discover their God-given identity and fulfill their purpose by utilizing their gifts to serve others. (2) Deploy this Army of Love to minister directly to and provide resources and referrals for people in need. Isaiah 6:8, Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here am I. Send me!" FOUNDERS’ WELCOME — Dear Brethren, it is with great joy and prayer that we welcome you to enlist in the Army of Love. This ministry began with a vision given by the Holy Spirit to my wife Lynsi in 2013. Going through a difficult time in her life, she cried out to God and asked desperately to be used by Him. In this time, she began seeing the Body of Christ coming together in unity from all walks of life with diverse gifts and skills to help those who were in need, including herself. She then began to envision an atmosphere where believers are encouraged and equipped to use their gifts and talents to become an Army of Love that ministers to a hurting and dark world. The gifts of God that dwell in the hearts of believers can often remain dormant, or even undiscovered. Thus, Army of Love's vision is to unite and equip the Body of Christ to minister and bring healing to broken hearted and hurting people through Christ’s love and by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is done by awakening those God-given gifts in believers so that they can minister with love and maturity. So, should you choose to accept this mission, we will embark on this great journey together; united in faith, calling, and purpose as we become better equipped to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:12-13) and enjoy the fulfillment of all God has for His people—to be saved, healed, set free, and equipped to do even greater things than He did (John 14:12); to be all we can be in Him. Thank you for your willingness, your time, and your heart to serve in the Lord’s Army of Love! With Love and in Christ, Sean and Lynsi Ellingson Founders BEGINNINGS — Isaiah 1:18, "Come now, and let us reason together," says the Lord, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool." Notice the heart in our logo on our homepage at armyoflove.com … black with sin and brokenness, yet covered with the crimson blood of Jesus Christ that cleanses us to be "white as snow." This is the verse and vision that Lynsi received at a time of deep personal pain, heartbreak, and conviction, and she knew she wasn’t alone. Just as Jesus Christ himself saw the masses of hurting people and felt deep compassion for them, He graciously moved Lynsi’s heart and filled it with greater empathy for those around her who are hurting. Matthew 9:36-38, But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." At a time when it seems that breakdown in a large percentage of personal relationships prevails, and our pace of "making it" in this life seems to spin out of control, our gracious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ reminds us of His perfect, unconditional and healing love. It is out of that heart of compassion that the Army of Love was birthed; first as a vision and now as an organic ministry. The Army of Love exists for the purpose of embracing people from all walks of life who are looking for direction, healing, encouragement, prayer, training, and freedom that only a relationship with Christ can bring. Many churches can find themselves overwhelmed in serving their communities, as there seems to never be enough time, resources, or trained people to meet all the needs presented to them. That is where Army of Love can help by serving alongside the Church in equipping an army of trained volunteers to minister to people’s hearts and needs. Whether you are seeking help or enlisting to volunteer as an individual, a couple, a family, or a church, we pray that you will be inspired by the hope that is offered through the Army of Love! YOU’VE HEARD THE CALL TO SERVE IN GOD’S ARMY — "Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?' Then I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'" - Isaiah 6:8 However God led you to this point, it is clear you have decided to consider enlisting in the Army of Love as a soldier in Christ’s service. We welcome you with open arms and are confident that your enlistment can bear abundant fruit to the glory of God, not only in others’ lives, but also in your own. The first part of our mission statement emphasizes our volunteers. We hope to help empower and train you because we believe that equipping people is essential to the very foundation of ministry and the development of your gifting to fulfill your God given purpose. “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me is not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me… Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” — 1 Corinthians 15:10, 58 WHAT TO EXPECT — I. MENTORSHIP: While education and training is a vital piece of all that we do, we put equal importance on the development of a strategic battle plan by unifying the troops through bonds of agreement, healing grace, and love. It is important that we get to know each other in pursuit of building a well-trained, equipped, and unified army. One of our top priorities is to connect you with a mentor who will share their experience, guiding you in your service in God’s kingdom as you become the soldier He has called you to be. Philippians 1:1-4: Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. II. ONLINE TRAINING: Every training course contains an opening prayer, preview videos, written material, quiz questions, summary videos and review questions. You will be able to go through the courses at your own pace, with the option to stop and pick up again at your convenience. Your mentor will connect with you to answer your questions, discuss what you’ve learned and how this experience has impacted your life. As you commence your training experience, please know that this training is designed to equip and empower you in your unique gifts so you can become more of who God has created you to be. We ask that you prayerfully lend your heart to receive all that God has for you as you assess the information and answer all the questions to the best of your ability. As you begin this exciting journey of commitment and service in obedient faith that Jesus has prepared for you, know that we are united together in prayer for you, standing behind you, supporting you and cheering you on. This process will transform not only your own life, but will transform the lives of many through you as you serve the Lord Jesus Christ, our Commander in Chief. III. BASIC AND SPECIALTY TRAINING: Once you’ve completed your online training, you will be invited to attend our Basic and Specialty Training Weekend Training, where the online training will be further developed. You will put elements of the training into practice in workshops, and get certified for front line service. Let’s walk the talk! Let’s put more boots on the ground together! CODE OF CONDUCT — Army of Love has created this code of conduct so that all volunteers are protected and able to understand the proper way to conduct themselves as a representative of Christ and His ministry. We must keep in mind that our public and private conduct as volunteer workers in the kingdom of God can inspire and support people, but it can also scandalize and undermine this ministry which is called to be a source of hope and help for many. Therefore, we must always be aware of the responsibility that accompanies our calling to serve in the Army of Love, holding ourselves to Biblical principles. Disregard or violation of this code of conduct will result in disciplinary action up or dismissal from serving as a volunteer worker. As a Volunteer Worker serving in the Army of Love, I am committed to the following values: Personal Character, Personal Responsibility, Safety and Respect. Ephesians 4:1-3 "I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." I. PERSONAL CHARACTER: Be committed to Jesus Christ, embracing his teachings and ministry to promote the good news of the Gospel. Exhibit personal integrity and commitment to ministry. Conduct myself in an honest and open manner, free from deception or corruption. Respect the authority of my leaders and esteem my colleagues. Attend to my own spiritual, physical, emotional, intellectual, and ministerial well-being. Remain open and accountable to the body of Christ. Participate in ongoing opportunities for growth through trainings, seminars, and workshops. Abstain from all forms of inappropriate and/or suggestive sexual behavior, comments, remarks, jokes, or innuendos. II. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY: Be dependable, timely, and prepared, recognizing the commitment and responsibility to my volunteer assignment(s). Attend all necessary trainings and meetings. If I must be absent or tardy for any reason, I will notify the identified person at least 24 hours ahead of time. Accept feedback and instruction from those around me who are there to equip and encourage growth. Never accept gratuities or any kind of payment for my volunteer work apart from donations to the Army of Love. III. RESPECT: Treat all individuals with a sense of dignity, respect, and worth regardless of race, sex, creed, or national origin; remain nonjudgmental about cultural differences, living conditions and the lifestyle of each person with whom I work. \n Wear appropriately modest clothing. All items of clothing must be suitable for the work of ministry and considerate of those we are helping. Be sure all clothing does not contain offensive or objectionable material (words or graphics). \n Abstain from profane and abusive language, including argumentative behavior. Abstain from the use of photo, audio, or video recording equipment unless authorized with proper release statements. \n Follow state confidentiality laws, respecting and protecting the privacy of those that you minister to. Never pressure anyone to accept my own personal political, cultural, or religious beliefs. \n IV. SAFETY: Adhere to all local, county, state, and federal laws and statutes, thus abstaining from all illegal activity.\n Contact my recruiter immediately with any concerns regarding personal security or well-being, and if in immediate danger, notify the proper authorities. Comply with mandated reporting laws, when applicable, and report cases of suspected self-harm or the abuse and/or neglect of children and vulnerable adults to the proper authorities. Never use, possess, or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while in ministry. CREED — 1. CALLED INTO A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT: Our Judeo-Christian God is the only personal relational God in the pantheon of world religions. Through Jesus' finished work we receive adoption as sons and daughters of God. We cry out, "Abba, Father" (Rm. 8:15). 2. GRACE BASED: We are saved by grace through faith, not works of the law (Eph. 2:8 9). We reject legalism and its brainchild, carnal religion. 3. WORD BASED: We believe the Bible is not man's, but God's word. It is inspired by the Holy Spirit and is the only infallible authoritative standard for all doctrine, faith, and practice (Heb. 4:12). 4. EVANGELICAL: We believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ, that all mankind is spiritually lost and must be born again by the Holy Spirit, through the preaching and teaching of God's word in power and in truth (Jn. 3:5-6). 5. CALLED TO PRACTICE CORRECT BIBLICAL HERMENEUTICS: All Scripture is to be interpreted in light of local language and culture and by the authority of the rest of Scripture. We need a Biblical faith which is spiritually balanced (2 Tim. 3:16). 6. PROPHETIC: We believe Jesus calls us to be salt and light to a lost and dying world, and that the body of Christ is given prophetic gifts to be used for "edification, exhortation, and comfort" (1 Cor. 14:3). 7. TRANSFORMATIONAL: We believe personal spiritual change (metamorphosis) can take place as we allow the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, and the gifts of the Spirit operating through the body of Christ to impact our soul (mind, emotions, will) and body (Rom. 12:1-2). 8. SPIRITUALLY ALIVE: Jesus said, "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth" (Jn. 4:24). We believe the Holy Spirit gives us gifts and power to serve God. Romans 8:13 declares Paul's summary statement of the Spirit's indispensable role in sanctification, "For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." 9. CALLED INTO SERVANTHOOD: We believe as members of the body of Christ that we are called to submit to one another and serve one another. Jesus said, "He who is greatest among you shall be your servant" (Mt. 23:11). 10. CALLED INTO ACCOUNTABILITY: We believe the body of Christ is to submit to one another in transparent fellowship and are to encourage and exhort one another with prayerful concern, to follow the Holy Spirit and the word of God in our lives (Rom. 14:12, 1 Pet. 5:5). 11. CALLED INTO ORGANIC MINISTRY: We believe the church is the body of Christ, "joined and knit together by what every joint supplies," gifted and called to be equipped for the work of ministry, causing "growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love … according to the effective working by which every part does its share" (Eph. 4:16). 12. CALLED INTO RADICAL COMMITMENT TO THE LORD AND HIS WORK: Jesus said his disciples must leave all to follow Him. This involves dying to our old flesh life and ways and being born again by His Spirit to walk by new kingdom power and perspective to help accomplish God's will on earth (Rom. 6:11, 7:4). 13. CALLED TO VICTORIOUS LIVING: We believe Christ purchased victory for us on the cross when He said, "It is finished" (Jn. 19:30). We can say with Paul, "Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Phil. 4:11 13). 14. CALLED TO SANCTIFICATION: To sanctify means to "set apart, to cleanse, to make holy.” We are sanctified by the offering of Jesus Christ on our behalf. The Holy Spirit will use people and circumstances to help crucify our sinful nature and rebirth us in the Spirit (1 Cor. 6:11, Gal. 2:20-21). 15. CALLED INTO IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS: We have been declared righteous because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. We receive this as a free gift by faith, as a gift of God's grace (Rom. 4:6, 11). 16. CALLED TO EQUIP THE SAINTS FOR THE WORK OF MINISTRY: We believe the saints are called into 7 steps of personal spiritual development; (1) Salvation, (2) Issue Counseling, (3) Discipleship, (4) Healing the Brokenhearted, (5) Deliverance, (6) Exhortation & Admonition, and (7) Training in Personal Ministry (Eph. 4:12). 17. CALLED TO LIVE IN A TWO KINGDOM PERSPECTIVE: The kingdom of God exists wherever God is allowed to rule and reign. We are called to live in two kingdoms, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of this world, the first overcoming the second, as our faith overcomes the world (1 Jn.5:4). 18. CALLED INTO SPIRITUAL WARFARE: We believe we are called into battle against the five enemies of our soul; (1) Fallen Creation, (2) The World, (3) The Flesh, (4) The Devil and his Demonic Realm, and (5) False Religion (2 Cor. 10:4-5, Eph. 6:12-18). 19. CALLED TO WALK BY FAITH: We believe we enter the kingdom of God by faith. We are to walk by faith, not by sight, into all the promises of God (2 Cor. 5:7). 20. CALLED TO WALK IN LOVE: Jesus said, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself” (Mt. 19:19), and “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you." (Lk. 6:27-28). Love also implies forgiving our neighbors as we forgive ourselves. 21. CALLED INTO UNITY: Paul said to the church of Ephesus, “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Eph. 4:1-3). He continued on to the church of Philippi, “Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind" (Phil. 2:1-2). ENLISTMENT COVENANT — (Review daily) I choose LOVE… No occasion justifies personal hatred; no injustice warrants bitterness. I choose love; today I will love God and what God loves, especially all His people. I choose JOY… I will invite my God to be the God of my circumstances. I will refuse the temptation to be cynical—the tool of the lazy thinker. I will refuse to see any problem as anything less than an opportunity to see God. I choose PEACE… I will live forgiven. I will forgive so that I may live in freedom. I choose PATIENCE… I will overlook the inconveniences of the world. Instead of cursing the one who takes my place, I will invite him to do so. Rather than complain that the wait is too long, I will thank God for a moment to pray. Instead of clenching my fist at new assignments, I will face them with joy and courage. I choose KINDNESS… I will be kind to the poor, for they are alone. Kind to the rich, for they are afraid. And kind to the unkind, as that is what they need most, and for such is how God has treated me. I choose GOODNESS… I will go without a dollar before I take a dishonest one. I will be overlooked before I will boast. I will confess before I will accuse. I choose FAITHFULNESS… Today I will keep my promises. My debtors will not regret their trust. My associates will not question my word. My family will not question my love. I choose GENTLENESS… Nothing is won by force. I choose to be gentle. If I raise my voice, may it be only in praise. If I clench my fist, may it be only in prayer. If I make a demand, may it be only of myself. I choose SELF-CONTROL… Few things in life come easy. I will exercise my free will to make the right choices based on God’s word, no matter the cost. I will say yes to the Spirit, and no to my flesh. I will be drunk only with joy. I will be impassioned only by my faith. I will be influenced only by God. I will be taught only by Christ. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. To these I commit my day. If I succeed, I will give thanks. If I fail, I will seek His grace. And then, when the day is done, I will place my head on my pillow and rest. I commit to walk with the fruit of the Spirit evident in my daily life. ENLISTMENT AGREEMENT — By signing below, I indicate that I have read the Army of Love Enlistment Process in its entirety. I have prayerfully considered my involvement in this ministry and agree and promise to adhere to the mission, creed, and code of conduct outlined in this enlistment document. I understand that my involvement in the ministry is completely voluntary, and I, at my own discretion, may cease to be a volunteer at any time. I am aware of the risks and responsibilities as a volunteer as evidenced by my having read the Volunteer Release and Waiver.
